Board of Education Approves Change to Semester Exam Policy

Letter from Principal Valente

October 13, 2010

October 14, 2010

Tony Valente
Principal
Hall High School

Dear Hall Parent,

There has been a change in the final exam policy at HHS that may affect your student for the 2010-2011 school year. The policy states that all students are required to take a final exam. There is an exemption, seniors who have passed all three PSAE exams, earned at least a 21 on the ACT exam and is currently receiving A’s or B’s are exempt from their final exams. The rationale for the change is two-fold:

1. We want to receive data from the exams so that we can continually adjust curriculum and instruction as well as create interventions for students.

2. We also want to prepare students to take comprehensive final exams in college

Due to the change in policy we will spread the final exams to three days beginning in December. We will follow the schedule below for the first semester final exams.

December 17th- Finals 3, 4 and 5 beginning at 7:55am
December 20th- Finals 1, 2 and 6 beginning at 7:55am
December 21st - Finals 7, 8 and make-up exams beginning at 7:55am

I also wanted to inform you that parent/teacher conferences will be held October 20th between 5pm-8pm as well as October 22nd between 8am-12pm. If you should have any questions please call me at 815-664-2100.

Thank you,

Tony Valente
