The Illinois Student Assistance Commission recently announced the 2009-2010 Illinois State Scholars. Of this year’s Scholars, seven are students at Hall High School. These students are Benjamin Dagraedt, son of Mark and Julianne Dagraedt of Cherry; Claire Faletti, daughter of Jim and Barb Faletti of Spring Valley; Macee Lentz, daughter of Rob and Jackie Lentz of Dalzell; Kaitlyn Ott, daughter of Eric Ott of Spring Valley and Erica Ott of Dalzell; Brandi Piccatto, daughter of Lee and Shari of Spring Valley; Christina Richardson, daughter of Tom and Michelle Richardson of Spring Valley; and Amanda Sangston, daughter of Kevin and Tari Sangston of Spring Valley.
Although program participation by high schools is voluntary, nearly all participate and Illinois’ top students elect to have test scores and high school class ranks sent to ISAC for consideration in this popular program. About 10% of Illinois’ high school seniors are designated State Scholars and receive a Certificate of Achievement for the accomplishment.
In order to enter the competition, high school students must take the ACT and/or SAT I college entrance examination between September 1 and June 30 of their junior year of high school and have the scores sent to ISAC. Generally, selection of State Scholars is based on a combination of their test scores and their class rank at the end of the junior year.
Nearly all will continue their education after high school. Of the Hall students named Illinois State Scholars, Dagraedt plans to pursue a pharmacy degree; Faletti plans to study dentistry; Lentz plans to study nursing; Ott plans to major in biology and then attend veterinarian school; Piccatto plans to attend Bradley University and study psychology; Richardson plans to major in accounting; and Sangston plans to major in early childhood education.
Congratulations to our Illinois State Scholars and their parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
