Spanish Students Send Books to Guatemala
by Donna Albrecht
November 03, 2009
Señora Donna Albrecht's Spanish 4 students are sending books to young students in Guatemala. They created original stories that they edited and illustrated in the Hall computer labs. The project helped the Spanish students practice their reading and writing skills and also addressed a basic need for some of the schools in Guatemala; since educational materials, including books, are extremely limited there. The books will be sent with Dr. Mayra C. Daniel at Northern Illinois University who will travel to Guatemala in February. The purpose of her trip is to help their teachers learn better methods of instruction. Most Guatemalan teachers are teenagers themselves, have no formal training, and are desperate for books. The Spanish 4 students enjoyed this project and will receive photos of the children who receive their books.
