Hall’s Miklavcic
to continue athletic career at Monmouth College
MONMOUTH, Ill. – Hall High School’s Ben Miklavcic has announced his
plans to enroll at Monmouth College this fall and continue his
athletic career with the Fighting Scots.
Miklavcic, of Spring Valley, will play basketball for coach Mark
Vershaw, who will be entering his third season guiding the men’s
program at Monmouth. The Scots, who finished one game out of the
four-team Midwest Conference tournament field in Vershaw’s
inaugural season, improved their win total last year and defeated
the nation’s No. 11 ranked team in the process.
As a senior forward, the 6-foot-4 Miklavcic averaged 17 points, 8
rebounds and 2 blocks per game for the Red Devils. A unanimous
first team All-NCIC selection, Hall’s MVP was also an Associated
Press Honorable Mention selection and named All-Area First Team by
both the LaSalle News Tribune and the Bureau County Republican.
The Red Devils compiled a 38-21
record in Miklavcic’s two years with the varsity squad. The team’s
22 wins his junior year were the most victories since the 1997-98
team posted 32 wins and finished second in the state. Hall’s
2008-09 season ended in the 2A regional finals to Princeton which
eventually advanced to the Elite Eight.
Miklavcic expects to major in pre-dentistry and business at Monmouth. He is the son of Mark and Mary Beth Miklavcic of Spring Valley.
