School – Greatness Planning Team Priorities
March 30-31, 2009
On March 30-31, twenty members of the Hall High School community (including board members, parents, faculty and staff), met at Starved Rock State Park and laid the foundation for Greatness. These 15 goals are a summary of that meeting.
Core Value/Purpose – to develop an adult school family unity of
purpose to insure consistency in pursuing our greatness plan while
insisting that all follow the “golden rule” in our relationships
with each other.
OUR 15 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT GOALS
1. In order to better engage our students in their own learning,
increase the rigor and relevance of our instruction in all
classrooms by deploying a common vocabulary and model
Included will be improved questioning strategies, engaging
instructional practices, and understanding of higher order thinking
skills.
2. Implement an effective two-way communication plan for all
stakeholders including the board of education and all members of
the adult school family.
3. Fully deploy our extraordinary commitment of success for every
9th grade student
4. Design and implement an all-school
literacy model, including content area reading strategies for all
teachers.
5. On a daily basis, practice the
worth, dignity and value of every member of our adult school family
and insure the inclusion of all in our school greatness plan.
6. Improve our 8 to 9 transition
process for students and staff.
7. Develop a numeracy across the
curriculum model so that math teachable moments are recognized in
every discipline.
8. Consistent with number one above,
implement a common instructional model, including ways that all
quality lessons begin and end, how we engage our learners, and how
we guide practice and check for understanding (BEEP).
9. Increase the rigor of the 12th
grade year for all students.
10. Create a curriculum change
process insuring involvement of teachers, counselors and
administrators in recommendations made to the board of
education.
11. Maintain high academic standards
for students by enrolling them in the most rigorous curriculum
possible in which they are capable of success. Board of education
support and parent communication will be critical.
12. Improve all issues related to
technology, including: hardware, student and staff access,
infrastructure, software, maintenance, library/media center
availability, etc.
13. Develop a positive marketing
plan, including community and parent awareness of why a rigorous
and relevant education is critical for every student.

involvement, including an improved parent communication plan.
15. Improve strategies to leverage the leadership of our upper-class students in owning the success of their school.
