Hall sophomore Scott Janusick pulled out his cell phone two weeks before the start of the cross country season. Janusick opened the notepad function and spelled out his two main goals for the 2008 cross country season.
1.) Regional championship.
2.) Get to Detweiller.
Janusick has achieved both of those goals in the last two weeks. He now finds himself creating new goals for the final meet of the season — Saturday’s state cross country meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria. “I really didn’t expect to be doing this good this early,” Janusick said after Saturday’s sectional meet. “Hopefully, I can medal. I don’t have that as a goal, yet, but a medal would be nice.”
The first-time state qualifier from Hall needs to finish among the state’s top 25 to earn a medal for all-state. He gets that chance Saturday at the IHSA State Cross Country Meet. The Class 1A boys race starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.
