April 11, 2012
SPRING VALLEY — The first-ever Tri-County Conference Art Festival will be Thursday at Hall High School in Spring Valley.
About 80 high school students, along with their art teachers, will display artwork in the gym. This display will be open to the public from 6 to 7 p.m.
The artwork will be divided into 24 categories. While the artwork is being judged, students will attend workshops where they will use their creative talents to make a project. Dinner will be served to participants in the cafeteria. At 6 p.m. everyone will return to the gym for the awards ceremony and listen to the judges’ critique of the blue ribbon winners and best of show. Ribbons will be given to the first four places, and the blue ribbon winners will also receive a conference medal.
The judges for this year’s festival will be Dana Collins and Linda Ribar.
The various workshops that students will attend, and the presenters, include tie-dying T-shirts by Sophie Verucchi, illustration for children by Ron McCutchan, basket weaving by Suzanne Schafer-Wilson and scratch carving by Lois Narog. The host teacher for this year’s event is Karen Klopcic, art teacher at Hall High School.
