Anyone in the vicinity of the Rollie Morris Memorial Track could hear the chants of Hall girls track and field team members.

“Hanck! Hanck! Hanck! Hanck!”

The Lady Devils were summoning their head coach, Nick Hanck, over to their team picture in front of the Rollie Morris stone at the entrance of the track.

There was a big reason for the celebration Saturday in Spring Valley — the Hall girls won their third straight Rollie Morris championship on their home turf.

Hall finished with 131 points, beating runner-up Princeton, which finished with 109 team points, to win the crown.

“It’s a huge achievement,” Hanck said. “I know I said when I was appointed this job that as this being our home invite that we always want to win it. I told the girls this week, ‘I don’t know if I’m getting greedy or not, but I really want to win this.’ They agreed, and they said they wanted to. I wasn’t sure coming into the meet if we had the points to do this, but they came out and performed.”

This is the second consecutive year Hall’s girls won the Rollie Morris title outright after sharing the girls team title with Bureau Valley in 2008.

The Lady Devils shined in the relays Saturday, winning the 400-meter relay in 52.6 seconds, and the 1,600-meter relay in 4 minutes, 29.3 seconds.

The Lady Devils had Liz Mosbach finish second in both the 200 meters (26.8 seconds) and the 400 meters (1:02.1).

Hall also received a boost from Lacey Kwiatek, who won the 300-meter hurdles in 53.2 seconds and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.2).

“It feels really good to win at your home meet,” Kwiatek said. “The 300s were usually second to me. I always put the 100s first or really try in those. I definitely just pushed as hard as I could. After I got second in the 100s, the 300s came and I thought maybe I could make up for it.”

Hall also received a boost from its field events, especially from Jessica Grivetti. Grivetti finished first in the discus by throwing 98 feet, 5 inches.

“Normally I haven’t been practicing the discus, so it kind of shocked me that I did it,” said Grivetti, who also took third in the shot put. “I am happy how I am doing. I am hoping to keep going further.”
