JEN ANDES NAMED NEWS TRIBUNE GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE
YEAR
Jen Andes arrived at Hall as Kailey Klein was entering the peak
of her illustrious girls basketball career. Andes was moved up to
the varsity as a role player her freshman year, averaging 7.1
points and 5.2 rebounds as Klein led the Lady Red Devils to a 23-6
record and their first regional championship. As a sophomore, Andes
cracked the starting lineup and bumped her scoring average into the
double digits as Klein carried Hall to 29-4 record and a state
tournament appearance. With Klein handling the bulk of the scoring
load and drawing the attention of opposing defenses, Andes was
allowed to develop her game away from the spotlight.
When Klein graduated and moved on to Cleveland State University,
Andes emerged from her shadows and continued Hall’s winning
tradition. As a junior, Andes led the team to its third straight
regional title by averaging team-highs of 13.1 points and 1.9
assists per game.
This season, Andes increased her scoring and rebounding, and
dominated the postseason to cap her career with an achievement even
Klein couldn’t accomplish — four straight regional championships.
“Kailey was a great player. She did a lot of good things, and she
opened a lot of things up for me my freshman and sophomore years,”
Andes said. “After she left, I think there was a weight put on me
to do it last year. We still won regionals last year and we did it
again this year. I think it shows that we have talented players
around here. It’s not just one person. There is definitely
something going on around here. We’re getting to be a good
basketball program.”
