Board of Education Meeting Summary
December 19, 2007
Began Meeting: 7:00 p.m. Ended meeting- 9:30 pm
Members Present: John Andes, Jack Boroski, Todd Fanning, Holly Flanagan, Sue Nolasco, Dale Pienta, and Betsy Resetich.
Informational Items-
Superintendent Struna presented the proposed tax levy based on a
projected 4% EAV growth. The proposed levy which will keep the
school district tax rate near $2.88 and could generate up to
$3,322,955 in revenue for the District.
Superintendent Struna presented a proposed revision to Board Policy 2:140 which includes new language to govern board member communications via email. The Board Policy Committee will reviewed the proposed revisions and recommended adoption by the full board.
Superintendent Struna submitted more information on the proposed drug testing policy including input from the Hall faculty, a comparison of drug testing policies at other area high schools, data on the number of students at Hall participating in extracurricular activities, and data summarizing drug and alcohol expulsion, suspensions at Hall High School as well as drug and alcohol arrests in Spring Valley during the 2007 year.
The board reviewed the health insurance renewal proposal from Blue Cross as well as proposals from other insurance carriers.
Members of the Board reported on their experiences at the Triple I Convention in Chicago in November.
Superintendent Struna shared information on the Democracy Project.
The Board discussed the current facility use policy.
Action Items-
The Board adopted the FY07 tax levy.
The Board approved revisions to Board policy 2:140 which deals with communication to and from the Board.
The Board approved the Blue Cross/Blue Shield health care renewal proposal.
The Board approved two facility use requests.
The Board scheduled a special meeting for January 9, 2008 for the purpose of holding a student discipline hearing.
